It leads to unhappiness: I'm starting a newsletter
...you can lose it all... but not your knowledge
My grandfather once said i took life too seriously… of course, my next question was, “HOW"? He mentioned, it leads to unhappiness. Yes sir, can you please explain to me how i take life too seriously?
He started; you see, it’s like a game. Match fixed but you do not know the team you’re meeting. Why’s this man talking about sports? (My thoughts). He continued, you play like you never want to lose, but if you lose a match, it does not mean your career is over yet. You only need to go fix your skills and mindset and get ready for the next match.
“Think of life as a sport, that’s how you weather stumbling blocks”
He realized I worried too much about the future at such tender age. I thought of life as a straight road with no single potholes, void of sharp corners with no need to ever hit the break… of course, I was wrong.
The world is perfectly shaped like the smoothest curve you can ever think of. Imagine how you could draw a straight line from the north pole and it meets the south perfectly. Imagine how the squirrels keep up with their regular fruit hunting even when they need an AC to cool off. However, our journey in this world is not like that.
He mentioned and I quote
“One thing at a time… let the compounding effect do the rest”
Often times, it’s little efforts that count.
Those words made me see happiness and fulfilment from a different lens. I learned how to show appreciation and how to appraise myself for the little effort I put in.
You might be wondering why I’m putting down these epistles. Don’t worry I’ll tell you.
My transition to finance was a funny one. It was a definition of the say '“LITTLE THINGS COUNTS”. Yes, they count.
I met a lot of quality friends between 2017 to 2018 during my mandatory national youth service year in Lagos - Nigeria, friends who are desperately obsessed with growth. Friends who made me feel I was not hungry enough. Of course, I mean - hunger for success. Our day to day attention was on tech, wealth and how to become super-rich.
As curious as I’ve always been, I jumped into Foreign exchange (FOREX) and Cryptocurrency. I already painted a mental picture of how rich I would become as soon as I get my hands on FOREX and Cryptocurrency trading. It was a weird thing to others who never believed in the journey, especially that I invested all of my savings from the national youth service into Bitcoin at $17,000 in December 2017. That was my first attempt to succeed - I bought the head and the massive pullback early took me out. - Don’t bother, Bitcoin made my year in 2020, an act of sweet revenge.
The major loss from Bitcoin in 2017 is the reason I’m now a financial writer. Yes - it was the birth of my love to learn more, know more and spread the message. Rather than beating myself, i became obsessed. I read almost all investment books - from Burton G. Malkiel’s “A Random Walk Down Wall Street”, Peter Lynch’s classic title “Beating the Street”, Christopher Browne’s “The Little Book of Value Investing” and of course “The Intelligent Investor” By Benjamin Graham.
Fast forward to 2020, i realized life is more about compounding, the little investments i made, the little books I’ve read and a lot of self-thought lessons had propelled me to where i am at the moment. Writing about the financial market every day gives me the boost of becoming a better investor. My decisions are now smarter, my views about the financial market are now wider, and of course the learning curve.
At this point, i deem it important to share a daily newsletter that sensor key happenings in the world of finance and investment.
Talk Fiance with Chenemi - will cover - Stock market investing - Fixed-income - Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) - Cryptocurrency - Stablecoins - Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and alternative investments.
My commitment to my readers is - to share quality information every weekday - information that is both entertaining and educative.
Let’s get going guys… It’s the little things that counts
